School of Business, Management and Economics receives full AACSB membership

Prof Steven McGuire

Following recent success in obtaining membership of the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), it has now been confirmed that the School of Business Management and Economics (BMEc) has also successfully obtained membership of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB).

Founded in 1916, the AACSB is a membership association of educational institutions, business, not-for-profit, and government organisations devoted to the advancement of higher education in business, with over 1,300 members in over 80 countries.

Gaining membership of AACSB, together with EFMD, has ensured that BMEc continues to raise its profile against its competitor institutions, and represents the next step towards gaining the appropriate recognition sought by the School. Membership of AACSB is the first stage, and will be followed by an application for accreditation of BMEc from AACSB.

Head of School Prof Steven McGuire, commented:

“Gaining AACSB membership is another fantastic accomplishment among many for the School in recent months and takes us further towards achieving our longer term goals. The AACSB Accreditation Standards are the longest standing and one of the most recognised form of specialised, professional accreditation obtainable by any business institution.

"As with the alternative European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) accreditation process, I’m fully confident that we can succeed with AACSB, with the involvement of our many dedicated and committed colleagues across the School over the next few years of the accreditation process.”
