Entrepreneur’s talk does a world of good for audience

Social entrepreneur Andy Mead is guest speaker at the University of Sussex Enterprise Thursday event

Social entrepreneur Andy Mead will be guest speaker at the University of Sussex's "Enterprise Thursday" event this week (Thursday 18 November).

The talk is part of a series of campus-based events to celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week.

The Brighton based businessman will tell the audience how he used his background in the events industry and a keen interest in environmental issues to set up Firefly Solar (www.fireflysolar.co.uk) to provide solar- powered generators to festivals and community events around the country.

The not-for-profit Community Interest Company (CIC) has grown quickly and now works with many big names including: Live Nation, MAMA Group, Festival Republic, Glastonbury, BBC, Sky, Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth, RPM, and Sledge and Flourish.

Firefly also has a unique partnership with the NGO "SolarAid", a development charity that provides solar energy to the poorest countries in an effort to combat both global poverty and climate change.

The Hove-based company won a contract recently to build a fleet of solar-powered internet cafes for remote parts of Africa, for the development charity Computer Aid.
