Production line simulation for MSc Global Supply Chain and Logistics Management students
Led by Dr Des Doran (Senior Lecturer in Operations and Supply Chain Management), students on the MSc in Global Supply Chain and Logistics Management took part in a lean workshop to demonstrate the basic principles associated with process improvements.
The simulation involved students assembling standard three-pin plugs which had to be delivered to the 'customer' during a 10 minute production cycle. After the first production cycle the students were given 10 minutes to improve the process and improve output. This approach coninued for three production runs and significant time and output improvements were made.
The simulation was a great success and reinforced the importance of process improvement at both the operational and supply chain perspectives.
