Young economists ranked in top 200
Two academics from the School of Business, Management and Economics have been named in a list of top young economists by an authoritative index of economics research.
Senior Research Fellow Dr Alex Coad, from SPRU, has been ranked 35th position and Dr Sambit Bhattacharyya, Department of Economics, in position 167 in the August 2014 list of top young economists, compiled by IDEAS RePec.
The rankings consider only the youngest economists (defined by the year of the first publication as 10 years ago or less) who are registered with RePEc - Research Papers in Economics.
Alex said: "I am delighted, and somewhat surprised, to hear this wonderful news. RePec is a well-known and authoritative index of economics research, so this means a lot to me. I am grateful to my colleagues at SPRU, at Sussex, and beyond, for their collaboration and support."
Professor Johan Schot, Director of SPRU, said: "Alex’s research on entrepreneurship, firm performance and industrial dynamics is world leading and it is wonderful that he has received this recognition in the RePEc ranking."
Professor Richard Tol, Director for Research and Knowledge Exchange in the Department of Economics, said: "Sambit is one of a number of very talented young lecturers hired over recent years by the department and it is good to see that recognized."
Dr Battacharyya also joins Professor Richard Tol , Professor L. Alan Winters and Professor Peter Dolton in the top 5% economists list for last month.
The rankings are based on data from the RePEc Author Service, EDIRC, bibliographic data collected by RePEc, citation analysis performed by CitEc and popularity data compiled by LogEc.
RePEc aims to enhance the dissemination of research in economics and related sciences. The heart of the project is a decentralized bibliographic database of working papers, journal articles, books, books chapters and software components.
