New paper investigates board gender diversity in community financial institutions

A new paper to be published in the Journal of Business Ethics, co-authored by Prof John Forker (Professor of Accounting (Financial)), examines the effects of gender diversity on boards of non-profit organisations in financial management.

Titled 'Financial Management Effectiveness and Board Gender Diversity in Member-Governed, Community Financial Institutions' and written with Anne Marie Ward (Ulster University), the paper combines resource dependency theory and agency analysis to examine credit unions in Northern Ireland, finding that 'boards with higher female representation exhibit superior financial management first, in respect of loan book quality in the period of austerity following the financial crisis and second when measured against return on assets'.
