- Q. How many hours of attendance and private study will be required in the MBA timetable?
-
A. Approximately 150 hours per module, with four on-campus teaching days and the remainder of the time spent on web-supported private study.
The degree is taught in 8 modules, each worth 15 credits, with an additional MBA Final project (60 credits) making up the 180 credit MBA qualification. Our modular structure enables a flexible entry, exit and re-entry pattern designed to fit with your career and home life commitments.
You'll be taught on the University of Sussex campus in 2x2 day teaching blocks (Friday-Saturday) per module. There'll also be an estimated additional 96 hours of web-supported independent study for each course. Teaching incorporates plenty of group work with fellow participants from a diverse range of backgrounds, from large public sector organisations through to small entrepreneurial start-up companies.
There will also be the opportunity to attend a number of seminars and presentations delivered by external experts, providing the potential to tap into the knowledge and experience of top business people and business angels.
- Q. Do I have to have work experience to apply?
-
A. To gain the most from, and fully contribute to, the shared MBA experience, we normally require a minimum of three years' experience in a role where you have demonstrated significant responsibility.
- Q. Do I need to have a degree to apply?
-
A. Normally participants will have a first degree, however we will also consider applications from those who have extensive management experience and/ or professional qualifications, but no degree.
- Q. Is there an exit qualification if you don't amass enough credits for the full MBA?
-
A. University procedure is to offer a Diploma after 120 credits.
- Q. What is the induction process for those who wish to start at a later point, ie Course 2 onwards?
-
A. There will be an induction session at each entry point, immediately prior to the first teaching block for that course.
- Q. What would participants receive for passing an individual module?
-
A. Standard University procedure is to issue a transcript that would indicate the number of credits achieved on each course. Going forward, it is our intention to offer Continuous Professional Development (CPD) points which would be associated with specific professional bodies (CIMA, ACCA, ICAEW, IPDM, CIM etc). We also intend to be able to offer individual courses as Executive Development units with certification.
- Q. Could any credits earned be transferred to another institution's MBA?
-
A. Yes, as per standard Higher Education practice, our course credits are fully transferable under CATS (Credit Accumulation and Transfer Scheme).
- Q. What happens if you have to miss one of the teaching days?
-
A. All course materials and videos of lectures and short clips on special topics will be available via the Virtual Learning Environment (Study Direct). Individual mentoring/ tutorial arrangements will provide one-to-one support where required.
- Q. What is the application process?
-
Note: it is not currently possible for international students to study the MBA, as the part-time nature of the degree does not permit successful visa applications.
A. You will need to complete an application form.
Once this form has been completed and returned, an interview with Dr Thanos Papadopoulos, MBA convenor, will be individually arranged.
