We encourage our undergraduate students to take a term or a year studying abroad. Sussex has links to universities around the world, and our business and management students can currently be found in Austria, USA and Taiwan.
Sussex has an established exchange programme with National Taiwan University (NTU) in Taipei. Since then, a number of students have spent part of their degree at NTU's College of Management, studying in English and learning Mandarin Chinese.
Tamás's perspective
'Going to Taiwan was one of the best things I've ever done. Originally I planned to stay for one semester, but eventually decided to stay for the rest of the year. It really is an amazing place. I got the chance to explore a completely different world.
'My activities were really diverse. One day I was learning about the management practice of a Taiwanese company, the next I was dancing with the local Taiwanese people and drinking rice wine from a bamboo cup. I learnt Mandarin Chinese, and used it constantly.
'It's hard to sum up a whole year of adventures in a few words, but I would say that it really was a lifetime opportunity. I am confident that this experience will be a huge boost to my career prospects.'
